Our ultimate organic dark chocolate trail mix recipe

Our ultimate organic dark chocolate trail mix recipe

Trail mix is one of our all time favorite snacks. It’s like rocket fuel on a hike, and it's a wholesome alternative to potato chips on movie nights. Trouble is, the prepackaged kind is often overpriced and there’s always that one pesky ingredient everybody eats around until all you’re left with is a big old pile of dried prunes.

That’s why DIY trail mix is the only trail mix. You can customize your own ingredients, the flavor combinations are endless and it’s almost impossible to screw up. Especially when you’re including organic dark chocolate in the mix.

It’s common to find brand name milk chocolate candies like M&M’s in a store bought trail mix, but the abundant benefits of organic dark chocolate have us opting for this healthy, bittersweet alternative instead. Because if you’re going to make a healthy snack, you may as well get it right.

Have fun with these ingredients, and tweak the proportions to your tastes. Let us know how you put your own spin on this recipe in the comments below!

HOW TO MAKE ORGANIC DARK CHOCOLATE TRAIL MIX

Ingredients:

1 cup almonds, raw and unsalted
1 cup walnuts, raw and unsalted
1 cup whole grain cereal (we like Nature’s Path Whole O’s, available at most Whole Foods)
1 cup pretzels
½ cup dried cranberries, unsweetened
½ cup organic dark chocolate chips

Instructions:

Toast the nuts at 300 degrees for 5 – 10 minutes. Allow nuts to cool before adding all ingredients together in a large bowl. Use a large spoon to toss until combined.

Transfer the mixture into an airtight container and enjoy!
