It’s the most wonderful (stressful) time of the year! We are so excited that the holidays are fast approaching, but also a tiny bit stressed out. There seems to be a million tabs open in our heads on what needs to get done before the holidays with so little time. Here are some ways to combat stress and get your mind in the holiday spirit. So, chill out, pop in a Wintergreen and relax.
- Create a budget for yourself
The holidays can have us overspending. From Thanksgiving, to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, that is a lot of spending in a short amount of time. What is not going to help your stress levels decrease is raking up your credit card bill uncontrollably and living outside your means. Create a financial budget and stick to it.
- Take a breath and practice mindfulness
Remember to breathe. Inhale deeply through the nose and exhale stress through the mouth. Find some calm in your day by trying these breathing exercises.
- Go for a walk
Exercising is a way to release endorphins and leave you feeling relaxed and energized. We all know it can be harder to fit in a workout everyday with holiday plans, but try to get out for a 30 minute walk on your lunch break if you can. Make sure you give yourself a break. Walking is a great way to clear your head and get back on track.
- Read and/or journal
Reading is a healthy escape from the holiday craziness. Relax your mind by picking up a comfort book or letting all of your overwhelming thoughts hit the paper. Reading is a way for your mind to take a mini vacation from the comfort of your living room.
- Self care
Try not to forget about taking care of YOU this holiday season. After a long day at work, de-stress by lighting your favorite lavender candle and taking a relaxing bubble bath. Afterwards, complete a skin care routine and apply a face mask. Treat yourself.
Keep in mind that the holidays are for everyone to enjoy, including yourself. Have fun and take a look around to appreciate your surroundings and be thankful for family and friends that are present.
