A longtime friend of ours has been recently diagnosed with ALS and in the midst of dealing with this tragic diagnosis he decided to start an organization to collect money to be donated to further research surrounding the disease.
A little background information to get you caught up - French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot discovered ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, in 1869. ALS is “a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord”. To give breakdown of how the disease progresses, motor neurons transfer from the brain to the spinal cord then connect to the muscles throughout the body. In ALS, motor neurons deteriorate and die, which eliminates the brains ability to control or even initiate muscle movement.
Our friend, Kevin Gosnell, T&K Asphalt owner, started the ALS Knights - an organization committed to bringing friends and families together to collaborate towards finding a cure and providing care for those suffering from ALS and those loved ones impacted by the disease.
If you are local to the Boston area – make a trip to the Sylvester Elementary School tomorrow, August, 26th 2015 and support ALS Knights for a town wide ice bucket challenge event (contact us if you would like more information).
If attending the event seems like a far reach please donate to ALS Knights or become a member!
Stay strong, Kevin.
